After last year entering into the contract for reconstruction of three transformer substations Tirana 1, Fier and Elbasan 1 in the value of EURO 17.4 million, KONČAR – POWER PLANT AND ELECTRIC TRACTION ENGINEERING (KET) has continued its projects with new contracts in the field of transmission of power in Albania signing a new contract for reconstruction of three transformer substations in the value of EURO 8.75 million. With the stated contract KONČAR has proved its position of a reliable partner for projects comprising construction of new and reconstruction of existing facilities intended for generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy in Albania.

The project has been financed by an EBRD loan and belongs to ECSEE APL2 Project. The main aim of this project is primarily separation of the Albanian Transmission Operator (OST) transmission network from power generation (KESH), all in accordance with separation of the once united company for generation, transmission and distribution of power, and to prolong the operational life of the existing facilities for generation, transmission and distribution of power, and to improve the quality of power supply to consumers, as well as reliability, safety and efficiency of the electric power system in the area of countries of South Eastern Europe.

Within the frames of the contract a challenging reconstruction of Fierza, Koman and Vau I Dejes facilities is going to be performed. Within the frames of the reconstruction that is going to be realised without any interruption of power supply from belonging hydro power plants into all three transformer substations, the complete, i.e. parts of switchgear of voltage levels 220 and 110 kV are going to be reconstructed. Protection and control equipment, as well as auxiliary plants, will be completely replaced with the aim of separation of the governance of each individual company of the controlled facilities.

The majority of the equipment will be supplied from the production programme of Company KONČAR – ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY, while the project design, organisation of construction and erection, testing and putting into operation will be completely performed by experts of KONČAR – POWER PLANTS AND ELECTRIC TRACTION ENGINEERING.

Transformer substations that are the subject of this reconstruction are of the key importance for Albanian Electric Energy System and all the works and switch offs shall be made with a special attention to provide for an uninterrupted power supply from belonging hydro power plants. KONČAR – POWER PLANT AND ELECTRIC TRACTION ENGINEERING will perform this project within the following 20 months and obtain another important reference in the area of challenging reconstruction of existing facilities and implementation of the most recent technologies of control and protection of electric power facilities in this part of Europe.
